You Are A Prophet
CALL TO PRAYER
Title: You Are A Prophet
By: Daniel Peter
Date: 16.06.2025
But Moses replied, โAre you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the LORDโs people were prophets and that the LORD would put his Spirit on them.โ
โ Numbers 11:29 NIV
Listening to many teachings in the body of Christ today, it is evident that there is still a need for greater understanding about who a Prophet is, as well as the ministry and function of the prophetic. Over the next few days, I trust the Lord to help me bring light to this important area.
When God took of the Spirit that was upon Moses and placed it on the seventy elders who were to assist him in ministry (Numbers 11:24-25), two of themโEldad and Medadโremained in the camp and prophesied. Joshua, Mosesโ assistant, urged Moses to stop them (Numbers 11:26-28), but Moses replied with profound insight into Godโs desire for His people:
โI wish that all the LORDโs people were prophets and that the LORD would put His Spirit on themโ (Numbers 11:29).
This desire of Moses found fulfillment in Acts 2:17, on the day of Pentecost, when God poured out His Spirit on all flesh, as prophesied by Joel (Joel 2:28). This outpouring made it possible for every believer to partake in the prophetic.
A prophet, at the most basic level, is one upon whom the Spirit of God rests. While not everyone is called to operate in the office of a Prophet as described in Ephesians 4:11, every believer has the potential to prophesy. Consider David: he was anointed king (1 Samuel 16:13), yet in the New Testament he was referred to as a prophet (Acts 2:30), even though he never bore the title or primarily functioned in that office during his life.
When Ephesians 4:11 lists the fivefold ministriesโApostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachersโit is referring to distinct functions, not exclusive identities. The prophetic spirit is not restricted to those with the title of Prophet.
Indeed, no Old Testament figure gave a more vivid portrayal of Christโs life, death, and resurrection than David (see Psalm 22, Psalm 16), yet his prophetic work was hidden under the label of a king. If David could function so powerfully in the prophetic without bearing the title, how much more should we, who are in Christ and filled with His Spirit, walk boldly in our prophetic identity?
You are a Prophetโnot necessarily by office, but by the Spirit. As you walk in this understanding, the grace for prophetic expression will be released.
Prayer Points:
- Thank God for His Word and the outpouring of His Spirit.
- Ask Him to help you understand your identity in Christ.
- Pray for grace to walk in the prophetic and manifest your calling.
