By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through Him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.

Yesterday, I spoke about trusting in God for healing—that is, we should look up to Him just as the Israelites did in the wilderness after being bitten by snakes. However, one of the means by which we access the healing that is in Christ Jesus is faith in His name.

Shortly after Pentecost, the first healing miracle that took place was the healing of the man born lame at the temple gate called Beautiful by Peter. When Peter spoke about the healing, he said, “By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong…” (Acts 3:16). The word “name” was translated from the Greek word Onoma, which means authority.

When we pray for the sick using the name of Jesus Christ in faith, it is as though Jesus Himself is the one praying for the sick. Whatever sickness cannot resist Jesus cannot resist us. This is also true when we pray for ourselves. When we are sick, instead of visiting the doctors immediately, we should exercise our faith over that ailment by praying in the name of Jesus over it.

Some years ago, when God instructed me to teach these realities, He showed me a vision of a child walking and hitting his leg. As the child was about to cry, I quickly turned to him and told him to say, “Be healed,” to the hurting foot instead of crying in pain. Our first response when we face a health crisis should be to pray over it using the name of Jesus, rather than complaining about ill health.

When we fully walk in the finished work of Christ, there will be no need to visit the hospital, because each time we need healing, we can access it by faith in His name.
