For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.

(Psalm 5:12 NKJV)

ย

A young man once applied for a position he did not feel fully qualified for. Many others had stronger resumes and greater experience. Yet when the final decision was made, he was chosen. Later, he said, โ€œIt was not my strength; it was simply favor.โ€ In life, there are moments when human effort alone cannot explain the outcome. That is the mystery and beauty of divine favor.

Psalm 5 is a prayer David offered in the morning while facing opposition and hostility. He did not deny the presence of enemies, but he placed his confidence in the Lord. He declared with assurance, โ€œYou will bless the righteous.โ€ This tells us that Godโ€™s blessing is intentional and personal. It is not random. It rests upon those who walk in relationship with Him (Ps 1:1โ€“3).

David goes further and says, โ€œWith favor You will surround him as with a shield.โ€ Favor is Godโ€™s goodwill, approval, and gracious intervention in our lives. To be surrounded means it encircles us completely. It goes before us into closed doors and turns them into open ones (Revelation 3:8). It stands beside us in seasons of opposition (Ex 3:21). It follows us even when we cannot see what lies ahead.

The image of a shield is powerful. In battle, the shield protected the soldier from arrows and unexpected attacks. In the same way, Godโ€™s favor guards us from dangers seen and unseen. It preserves our destiny, restrains harm, and establishes His purpose over our lives (Gen 15:1). Favor does not mean we will never face trials, but it assures us that trials will not destroy us.

Beloved in the Lord, through Christ we have been made righteous (2 Cor 5:21). Therefore, this promise is ours. We do not walk alone into our workplaces, ministries, families, or daily responsibilities. The favor of God surrounds us. It speaks on our behalf. It makes a way where there seems to be no way. It distinguishes us not because of who we are, but because of whose we are.

Prayer Point:

Let us thank God for His divine favor that surrounds our lives like a shield. Let us ask Him to help us walk in righteousness and obedience so that we may continually experience His blessing.

God bless you all!
