Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6 -7

In life, sometimes we are faced with unpleasant situations: People not acting in the way we expect, or a delay in the fulfilment of certain promises, etc. Sometimes these situations may attempt to weigh us down. For the natural man, being anxious about them is the normal response, but for us Christians, Philippians 4:6 admonishes us to take it to God.

It has been said that worry and anxiety is a sign of pride, as it shows you are depending on yourself to fix a situation. If our confidence is truly in God, negative situations will not cause us to panic, for we know that God, with whom nothing is impossible, will take care of it. Depending on God frees you from the stress that the situations of life *try* to place on us.

So, when faced with an unpleasant situation, anxiety and worry should not be our first response, but prayer. Why worry when you can simply talk to God about it? Recently, I was faced with an unfair situation at work. I was quite sad and emotional about it, so I went to the toilet to get away from the people and to pray. As I prayed about it, there was an overwhelming assurance that what I was faced with was working for my good, and suddenly, my countenance changed, and I left there as though nothing had happened.

When we talk to God about our situation, He gives us a different perspective of it that will impart an attitude of faith, not fear; of trust, and not worry. That peace that surpasseth understanding becomes yours to experience. So talk to Him about it.

Prayer Points

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us to talk with Him about our situations and not be anxious about them.
