For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
2 Timothy 4:3 NIV

Recently, I had the opportunity to teach the word to some people. As I taught, I received pushback from the audience, as though they were resisting what I was saying. After the service, I wondered what I had done wrong. I thought I must have offended someone in the audience. As I pondered on these things, I heard in my heart, “It’s because you preached against sin.”

When writing to Timothy, Apostle Paul spoke about a time when “people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear” (2 Timothy 4:3 NIV). We are now living in the time Paul prophesied about. As His ministers, what should we do? Should we say what people want to hear, or that which God wants them to hear? For those whose desire is to please the Lord, we must preach what He instructs.

Therefore, to be preachers of His righteousness, we must be dead to the opinions of men. If you seek validation from men, you will not be able to fulfil your ministry, and you cannot be a true servant of God. As the Apostle said, “…If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10).

Preach righteousness boldly. Freedom comes only by the truth (John 8:32), and the truth is that it is God’s will for His children to walk in righteousness.
