“You will also declare a thing, And it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways.” Job 22:28 (NKJV)

Throughout the Bible, we see that what we say reflects what is in our hearts and can influence the direction of our lives. Job 22:28 reminds us that there is power in declaring God’s truth and promises rather than speaking fear, doubt, or defeat.

This verse was spoken by Eliphaz to Job. While Eliphaz’s understanding of Job’s situation was not entirely correct, the principle remains true when our declarations are rooted in God’s will and His Word. We are not called to make empty positive statements, but to confidently declare what God has promised.

Many believers unknowingly speak against their own prayers. They pray for healing but continually confess sickness. They ask God for peace yet constantly speak fear. They pray for victory but confess defeat. Scripture teaches us to align our words with God’s promises.

When David faced Goliath, he did not focus on the giant’s size. Instead, he declared, “This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand” (1 Samuel 17:46). His confidence was not in himself but in the God who fights for His people.

Likewise, when God called Gideon, He addressed him as a “mighty man of valour” even though Gideon felt weak and afraid (Judges 6:12). God’s Word defined Gideon’s future more than Gideon’s feelings.

As followers of Christ, we should speak life, hope, faith, and truth. Our declarations should be based on Scripture:
• ”The Lord is my Shepherd.” (Psalm 23:1)
• ”I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
• ”God will never leave me nor forsake me.” (Hebrews 13:5)

When your words agree with God’s Word, your faith is strengthened, your perspective changes, and His light guides your path.
Let’s ponder these words.
• What have you been declaring over your life lately?
• Are your words producing faith or fear?
• Are your confessions aligned with God’s promises?

PRAYER POINTS

  • Let’s thank God for His word.
  • Let’s ask God to help us to guard our tongue and speak words that honour Him.
  • Let’s ask God to teach us to declare His promises instead of our fears, His truth instead of our doubts, and His victory instead of defeat. Amen!
