“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.” Hebrews 13:15 NIV
Life has different seasons; there are moments of joy and excitement, as well as sorrow and pain. It is easy to praise God when things seem good, but it becomes sacrificial to do so when we cannot find reasons to.
Have you ever been in a place where praising or thanking God becomes difficult? Some may find themselves in this place during times of trials. However, the most powerful praise we can ever render is when our situation isn’t pleasing. Let’s consider Paul and Silas. After ministering in Macedonia, a location where the Holy Spirit had compelled them to go, they found themselves in prison (Acts 16:6–24).
In that state, they had reasons to complain, as it seemed they had been disappointed by God. But instead, they chose to praise God at night (Acts 16:25). That praise generated so much power that the prison doors were opened, their chains were broken, and the lives of the people around them were touched by the Gospel (Acts 16:26–34).
From this story, we find that the moments of trials we experience are opportunities to render God praise that is sacrificial. I read in a book by Rick Joyner how heaven pays special attention to what we do during trials, as God is eagerly expecting worship and praise in that time. So, let’s not let such opportunities pass us by.
Instead of complaining, praise. In the midst of the pain, praise. When it doesn’t make sense, praise. A praise that is sacrificial ascends as a pleasing aroma to God.
