Title: Keep Moving

And as David went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill’s side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust. (2 Samuel 16:13 KJV)
There are seasons in life when you are doing your best to move forward, yet everything seems to be working against you. You pray, you obey God, you try to live right, you do your work well, and suddenly someone begins to criticise you, misunderstand you, insult you or even deliberately make life difficult for you. That was David’s experience.
In our opening text, we see David, who was fleeing Jerusalem because Absalom, his own son, had rebelled against him. Then Shimei appeared, cursing David and throwing stones at him. Imagine being wounded by your own family and, while running for your life, having someone publicly add insults to your pain. Yet David kept walking. Don’t allow somebody else’s behaviour to determine the direction of your life.
Sometimes the greatest temptation in adversity is to stop moving because of what people are saying. But David understood something important: God was still with him. Joseph experienced something similar. His brothers rejected him, sold him and caused him tremendous pain, but they could not cancel God’s purpose for his life. Eventually Joseph declared in Genesis 50:20, “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good”.
Maybe someone has made your life difficult through harsh words, rejection, betrayal, disappointment or false accusations, and it touched your soul. You may not be able to control what they say, but you can control whether you keep moving. Sometimes maturity is knowing when not to respond, and your destiny is too important to be abandoned because of somebody’s opinion. God can use even the season of humiliation to position you for restoration. David eventually returned to Jerusalem. What looked like the end was only a chapter in his journey.
So, in conclusion, keep walking, keep trusting, keep praying, keep moving and don’t let the stones men are throwing today make you abandon tomorrow’s throne that God has ordained for you.
Prayer point:
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let us ask Him to give us grace to keep moving when life becomes difficult and give us wisdom to handle unpleasant situations.
