โ€œThat the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.โ€
(Philemon 1:6 KJV)

By virtue of our new birth, we have become heirs of God, which means we have the legal right to possess all that God is and has. All of Godโ€™s blessings for Christians are located in Christ (Ephesians 1:3). How do we access them? How can they become a living reality in our lives?

The word โ€œtestamentโ€ means โ€œa person’s will, especially the part relating to personal property.โ€ Therefore, the New Testament is a legal document that contains all that God has willed to usโ€”our inheritance. So whatever we find in it is what God has given to us.

For example, it is stated in 1 Corinthians 1:30 that Christ has become for us wisdom from God, which means we all have legal access to Godโ€™s wisdom. Again, 1 John 2:20 reveals that โ€œwe all have knowledgeโ€ (ESV). Also, from 1 John 5:20, we see that God has given us all “an understanding to know the Truth“, meaning we all have understanding.

From these, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding are ours in Christ, and they become effective (active, energised) when we acknowledge them, as our scriptural verse today admonishes us.

We acknowledge the good things in us as revealed by the Word, firstly by thanking God for them. As we thank God, He empowers us to manifest these attributes. Normally, when I pray, I spend some time thanking God for the things He has given me in Christ.

One day, He granted me an experience to encourage me to continue. During a time of prayer, I discerned the presence of several angels in my room. They stood in a long line, and initially, I saw only their forms.

I started my Thanksgiving by saying, โ€œThank you, Lord, for making me a blessing to my generation.โ€ As I said that, the angel responsible for making that a reality in my life appearedโ€”I saw him clearly, his face and clothes.

I continued by saying, โ€œThank you, Lord, for being my wisdom,โ€ and the angel responsible for that appeared in the same manner as the first. Then I understood that the angels standing in a long line in my room were each attached to an area of my thanksgiving. Ever since then, my list of thanksgiving has increased.

Another way we acknowledge the good things in us is by affirming them. When Christ is your wisdom, there is no way you can be foolish. On this basis, you should always declare that you are wise, no matter the situation that seems contradictory. This is not pride; rather, you are acknowledging Godโ€™s Word as true over you.

The more you do this, the more God empowers you to manifest it. The same applies to healing, righteousness, and other blessings we have in Jesus.

Prayer Point:

  • Let’s thank God for His word today.
  • Let us take time today to ask God to reveal our inheritance in Christ to every believer, and to grant us the grace to always acknowledge these truths, no matter the prevailing circumstances.
