Title: As a man thinketh

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8 KJV)
Have you ever thought of buying a particular car? For instance, a Mercedes-Benz. You will suddenly realise that you are beginning to see that make of car everywhere you go. This is one of the beautiful functions God designed in the human mind. It has the capacity to sieve out things that are not high on your hierarchy of needs and prioritise what you take as important. When we focus our thoughts on Godly things, we are attracted to more of the same. This is why the wisest man that ever lived told us to “keep our heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life” (Pro. 4:23)
What we think about defines who we are and who we become. Thinking is a component found in the soul, but the soul itself has other components that work together like a jigsaw puzzle. This is why what we think matters because it defines what we see, what we say, our decisions, our convictions, and our way of life. We saw how Job became a victim of his fearful thoughts, whereas you can see the thoughts in the heart of David because of his previous encounters with the living God. It created boldness in him to speak to Goliath in a fearless manner.
What we meditate on produces substance in us. Criminals don’t go to school to learn criminality. The more they think about doing evil, the more they are inspired by demonic spirits, and the more they come across other wicked people like them who make them worse. We must therefore think pure and honest thoughts, think scriptures, things that edify, thoughts of the things of God, so we can be inspired by the Holy Spirit to live righteously and in conformity with the requirements of Godโs kingdom.
James Allen, in his book “As a man thinketh” argues that when you think about sickness for too long, you begin to manifest it. So, as children of God, our lives are hid in Christ, and our thoughts must be Christ-like in all that we do. Ask yourself, what will Jesus do? Then that guides you when you see a lady walk past, and you feel this pressure to look back and see her body features again. Are you thinking of collecting a bribe, cheating someone, taking what is not yours, or fornicating? Impure thoughts lead to sinful actions when not curtailed.
You have a glorious destiny, and the enemy is not happy about all that God has in stock for you. Don’t allow him pollute you and render you useless.
Prayer point:ย
Let us thank God for His word today. Let’s ask for the mind of Christ to come alive in us so that the love of God can keep us.
