Title: Benefits of Being Generous

41 But now as for what is inside you—be generous to the poor, and everything will be clean for you. Luke 11:41 NIV
When it comes to the benefits of being generous, the first one people may think of is that of growing richer, which I will mention; however, what is less spoken of is that generosity purifies you.
When Jesus addressed the Pharisees in Luke 11:37-53, one of the things he said was that they had greed and wickedness inside of them, but the solution or antidote was for them to become generous to the poor, just as we read in the opening verse. Generosity purifies you.
Generosity also leads to multiplication or growth. According to the wisdom of the world, the way to increase is to keep as much as possible or at least invest in businesses. However, God invites us to invest in Him by giving for various purposes of His kingdom, whether it is the sustenance of His church or to the poor. He says:
38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38
Proverbs 11:24 also recounts a paradox in life. It says:
One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
Generosity will increase your wealth so that you have more to give. Yet someone may be stuck at being broke, giving very little or nothing from their little.
Generosity gives us access to all grace or God’s blessings as revealed in 2 Corinthians 9:7-9, to be able to do every good work. In other words, God will bless you to continue to be a blessing in every regard.
Finally, the last benefit I will mention is that generosity is an investment for your eternity, as the Bible says:
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
As seen in the above Scripture, giving is not only an investment, but a source of preservation, for you will not want to miss heaven so that you can obtain your treasures, which you know are in heaven. Take note, it does not say buy heaven, for heaven is accessed by faith in Christ Jesus, a faith evident in various works of righteousness beyond giving.
Despite the promises of God’s word, giving can feel like a loss, but we must discard such lies and believe the promises of God and therefore be ones that are generous because of our faith in His promises.

- Let’s ask God to help us give generously with the faith that we would receive in order to keep giving.
