โ€œBut Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.โ€
โ€” Genesis 6:8 (NKJV)

Grace is the divine enablement to accomplish specific purposes in the Kingdom of God. Throughout Scripture, we see individuals who โ€œfound graceโ€ and were empowered to fulfil divine assignments.

One of such individuals was Noah, who found grace to live righteously and walk with God in a generation deeply corrupted. The Bible records that the earth had become exceedingly wicked (Genesis 6:5), yet Noah stood outโ€”not merely by effort, but by grace.

Another example is Apostle Paul, who acknowledged this divine enablement in his life:

โ€œAlthough I am less than the least of all the Lordโ€™s people, this grace was given meโ€ฆโ€
โ€” Ephesians 3:8 (NIV)

Though not always explicitly stated, everyone God used significantly in Scripture operated by grace. This raises an important question: How does one find grace?

First, before grace is given, there is always a divine plan. Every assignment originates from Godโ€™s eternal purpose. For instance, before Noah was instructed to build the ark, God had already purposed to preserve a remnant of humanity through judgment. The plan necessitated a vesselโ€”and Noah became that vessel by grace.

Likewise, Godโ€™s choice of Apostle Paul was rooted in a divine intention:

โ€œBut for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His immense patienceโ€ฆโ€
โ€” 1 Timothy 1:16 (NIV)

This shows that divine purpose precedes the allocation of grace.

Secondly, the choice of who receives grace is ultimately by divine prerogative. It is not based on human merit or effort. Scripture illustrates this in Godโ€™s choice of Jacob over Esau:

โ€œโ€ฆbefore the twins were born or had done anything good or badโ€”in order that Godโ€™s purpose in election might standโ€ฆโ€
โ€” Romans 9:11 (NIV)

Similarly, Isaiahโ€™s encounter in Godโ€™s presence (Isaiah 6:1โ€“8) was initiated by God, giving him the opportunity to respond to a divine call.

Finally, although Godโ€™s plan and choice are not earned by human works, we still carry a responsibilityโ€”alignment.

Alignment positions us to walk in the grace already made available in Christ. This includes:

  • Embracing our weakness, because grace is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9)
  • Exercising faith in Godโ€™s promises and finished work
  • Dwelling in Godโ€™s presence consistently
  • Yielding to His written Word and specific instructions

These positions our hearts to receive and walk in divine enablement.

Prayer Points:

  • Thank God for His Word and revelation today.
  • Ask Him to help you find and walk in His grace.
  • Pray for the sensitivity and alignment required to fulfil His purpose for your life.
