Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead Philippians 3:13
A new season with God often requires a clear decision: leave the old behind. Many people desire change, growth, and a fresh start, yet still hold on to past habits, hurts, and ways of thinking. But Scripture calls us forward:
“Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead” (Philippians 3:13).
Following God means letting go. You cannot fully embrace what God has ahead while still clinging to what He is asking you to release. The Bible says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). This is not just a statement—it is an invitation to live differently.
Think about the story of Lot’s wife. As God brought her out of Sodom, she was given a simple instruction: don’t look back (Genesis 19:17, 26). But she looked back—and it cost her everything. Her story reminds us that constantly looking back can prevent us from stepping fully into what God has for us.
Even Paul the Apostle had a past he could have been trapped in. He once persecuted Christians, yet God transformed him into a powerful apostle. Instead of being defined by his past, Paul chose to press forward into God’s purpose (Acts 9:1–22). Your past does not disqualify you—if you release it, God can redeem it.
Letting go also includes releasing guilt, regret, and old mindsets. God is not asking you to ignore your past but to surrender it to Him. “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing” (Isaiah 43:18–19). God specialises in new beginnings.
As we grow in Christ and await the return of Jesus Christ, we must live intentionally—light, free, and focused. The old life cannot follow you into your new calling.
This is your moment to let go.
Drop the weight.
Release the past.
Step into the new.
