And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. [6] And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching. (Mark 6:5-6 KJV)
In our opening text, we see the Lord handicapped because of the people’s unbelief and familiarity. He was sent to them, and they still managed to downplay his divine assignment out of ignorance. Many Opportunities are being missed daily due to a lack of discernment and ignorance. A lot of believers have missed destiny appointments because they did not come the way they had imagined. Present-day Jews are still expecting the Messiah who already came over 2000 years ago.
Secondly, partial obedience or disobedience can derail destiny.
After Elijah had an encounter with God on the mountain, he was instructed to anoint three different individuals(Hazael, Jehu and Elisha) to be king of Syria, king of Israel and a prophet to replace him (1Kings 19:15-20). However, the destiny of Jehu was delayed because of the partial obedience of Elijah, who only made contact with Elisha and forgot about the remaining two. It was God’s mercy that remembered Jehu and revealed it to Elisha, who later sent a young prophet to anoint him, and immediately, he began to fulfil his assignment (2 Kings 9).
There are people sent to you by God who need to carry out their own assignment for you to achieve yours. Failure for them to do this could culminate in a delay of purpose. God hinged the deliverance of the children of Israel from Egypt on Moses and Aaron. If they had failed to comply, it would have resulted in a longer period of slavery for the people. Meanwhile, they had already spent an extra thirty years beyond what God told Abraham.
The antidote to this is the goodness and the mercy of God. Mercy occasions remembrance, and restoration is achieved because God initiates a second chance for hopeless situations. The people of Nineveh would have all been destroyed because Jonah ran away from God, but his mercy made the whale swallow him so he could preach to them, and they could have a chance to repent.
His goodness cannot be qualified, and if there are any opportunities we have missed, God is able to bring them back again by His mercy.

Let’s thank God for His word. Let’s ask Him to restore to us any missed opportunities by His mercy.
