God has ordained that humanity will be saved by faith in Christ Jesus. For this to be, the work of Christ had to satisfy every human standard of judgment, beyond the manifestation of the supernatural. In the human court system, eyewitness accounts influence the direction of judgment, especially when there is more than one witness.
Knowing this, Jesus intentionally chose twelve disciples. Beyond wanting to send them out to preach the word and heal the sick, He meant for them to be witnesses of His life, works, death, and resurrection. God had ordained that through their testimony, people would come to believe in Jesus. This is why, when a replacement was sought for Judas, the criterion was that it should be someone who had been with them from Jesus’ baptism to His resurrection — for he was to be a witness of these things (Acts 1:21-22).
The twelve disciples did not have equal access to Jesus. Peter, James, and John seemed to be more intimate with Him than the others, as they were the only ones who witnessed His transfiguration and were told not to speak of it until He had resurrected (Matthew 17:1-9; Mark 9:2-9; Luke 9:28-36). This meant Jesus gave Peter, James, and John a greater witness of His majesty than He gave the others (2 Peter 1:16-18).
However, though the Scriptures record the testimonies of Peter and John concerning Jesus’ life, that of James is missing. This is because he died shortly after Pentecost, at the hand of Herod (Acts 12:1-2). The very fact that his witness is missing suggests he did not fulfil his destiny, despite Jesus’ investment in him. Unlike Judas, no one took James’s place — there was no continuation of his ministry on earth.
Peter was in the same situation as James: Herod sought to kill him too (Acts 12:3-4), but the church prayed (Acts 12:5), and he was delivered (Acts 12:6-11). This shows that if the church had prayed for James’s release, God would have delivered him as well. Because the church failed in this area, a piece of what He had ordained for our edification is missing — James’s witness.
When we fail to intercede for the body of Christ, we may not receive the fullness of what God intended for us, and the enemy can cut short the destinies of people, as he did to James. Fulfilling the ministry of intercession for the body of Christ ensures that His will is done in every life.

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to stir up His Church to intercede for His body, so that His will may be done in every life.
