And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28 NIV

God is a God of purpose. Before anyone comes into this life, there is a predefined purpose, destiny, and pathways to achieving it. Included in that pathway are the trials one is destined to experience. Though we have little choice about what we must endure on the path of destiny, how we react to those trials is entirely our choice.

Though God destines everyone for a particular purpose on earth, not everyone fulfills their God-given destiny. The difference between those who fulfill it and those who do not lies in the choices they make along the path of destiny. This includes how we choose to respond to trials.

For example, when God delivered the children of Israel from Egypt, He destined all of them to inherit the Promised Land. However, of all those above twenty years of age in that generation, only Joshua and Caleb entered and inherited the promise (see Numbers 14:28-30; Joshua 14:6-14).

The difference between Joshua, Caleb, and the rest who died in the wilderness was the choice they made in the face of trials: trust over fear (see Numbers 13:30; 14:6-9).

The same can be said of many others in Scripture who fulfilled their destiny. Joseph could have chosen to rebel against God because of the hardships he endured, but instead, he chose to remain faithful to God in both the use of his gifts and his character. In doing so, he fulfilled his destiny of becoming a ruler.

The choices you make in your relationship with God โ€” especially during trials โ€” will determine whether what He has planned for your life will come to pass or not. Therefore, in the journey of life, we have a responsibility to do that which pleases Him. Those who do so are the ones who see His promises fulfilled. As we choose to trust Him, even in difficult times, He will cause even the things that seem negative to turn out for our good.

Prayer Points

Let us thank God for His word today. Let us ask Him to help us make the right choices โ€” to do what pleases Him, even during trials.
