Topic: The Secret of the Lord

“The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.”
Psalm 25:14 (KJV)
Reading through Scripture, we find that God often personalises certain attributes and virtues. Jesus Christ declared Himself “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Though “way” and “truth” are virtues, and “life” is the context for expressing them, they are all embodied in the person of Christ.
In today’s memory verse, we encounter what appears to be a virtue of God: “the secret of the Lord.” The word “secret” is translated from the Hebrew word sôd, which means confidential counsel, intimate fellowship, or close friendship. In some Bible translations, this phrase is rendered as “the friendship of the Lord” (ESV).
From this, we can understand sôd as an intimate relationship with God in which access to His hidden truths is granted.
Job operated in this dimension. As a man who feared God deeply, he said: “As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle” (Job 29:4 KJV). The access Job had through his intimate fellowship with God distinguished him in his generation.
As mentioned earlier, God expresses His attributes through persons. When Jesus said the Holy Spirit would guide us into all truth (John 16:13), it reveals that the Holy Spirit is the channel through which we access the deep things of God—His covenant, revealed in truth.
Therefore, when Scripture says, “The secret of the LORD is with them that fear Him,” it implies that the Holy Spirit—God’s abiding presence—is with those who fear Him.
The secret of the Lord is the Holy Spirit. And as we cultivate fellowship with Him, He unveils the deep things (secrets) of God to us. However, the fear of the Lord is the gateway into this dimension.
