Moreover the LORD said unto me, Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a man’s pen concerning Maher–shalal–hash–baz.[3] And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said the LORD to me, Call his name Maher–shalal–hash–baz. (Isaiah 8:1,3 KJV)
Documentation is key to retaining vital information, preserving history and laying out plans for execution. A wise man once said that the faintest pen is sharper than the most retentive brain. Writing, organising and documenting the things we received from God is a great way to keeping the speakings of God in it’s truest form instead of keeping it in memory and getting it mixed up with other events as time passes by. Even God had to document the commandments on tablets of stone for Moses.
In our opening scripture, we see the Lord instructing prophet Isaiah to write some information down concerning a certain individual who had not yet been born and he did so as instructed. The details of this boy’s destiny is tied to the political events in the land and how God intends to intervene but all of it had to be documented so nothing is lost from the speakings of the most high.
Whenever God speaks, it is highly important that His words to us are written down. So, we can carry out the instructions to the letter without adding or removing from it. All scriptures that we have today existed because they were written down. In Habakuk 2:1-3, God instructed him to write the vision and make it plain upon the tables so it can be clear to those who read it to run with the vision. The reason why it looks like we are not hearing from God is because we didn’t document all He had been saying and in most cases, they were not even actioned.
Action points must come from every speaking of the Lord through any channel He chooses to speak with. He might be sending you to give a word to someone, pray for them or tell you things about your life. These informations are time sensitive and must be acted upon with all sense of urgency. When you have things recorded in your notes, you can fact check them with scriptures.

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him for the grace to keep records of His words to us and to fulfil them as instructed.
