Today what I will be sharing may not be “politically correct” to some, in a religious sense. But we have to sincerely look at the scriptures and be shaped by it, not popular religious beliefs. One of such popular belief is that God’s love is unconditional and that’s all!.
While true that God’s love is unconditional, from looking at what is revealed in scriptures, you will see that this is not the only dimension of God’s love. The bible tells us God is Love (1 John 4:8). It tells us God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). So God loves the entire world and He desires all to be saved.
However, in another dimension or you can say sense, God doesn’t love everyone ( or if you prefer “doesn’t like everyone” which is still love). Please stay with me. Remember this is another dimension. Now let’s look at the first example from scriptures. In John 14:21 it says:
So the above dimension of God’s love is not accessible to all but to those who keep God’s commands. This shouldn’t be hard to comprehend. Just look at the example of our earthly fathers with many children (And God is the father of all spirits. Hebrews 12:9). There is a general love He has for all. But there is also a special love He has for His children who are obedient.
Jesus Christ is not just loved by the Father because He is the only Son of God but also because He always pleases/obeys God (John 8:29). Let’s consider another example in Job 1:8:
8 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”
Imagine God boasting of you. How much He must love you to boast of you.
Why is this understanding important? Because when we only know about God’s unconditional love and are ignorant or reject the conditional dimension of His love, then people become lazy or lukewarm and don’t seek to please God. Yes, God loves you because He is love. Now, do you love God and what can He say of you?

- Let’s pray that God would help us to keep His commands so that He can Love us even more and show Himself to us.
