“The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.”  Deuteronomy 29:29 NIV

There are things that are not written in the Scriptures but are still true of God. This was confirmed by the Apostle John when he said, “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written” (John 21:25 NIV). This means there are acts of God that are not documented, yet they are true.

After Moses gave God’s laws to the children of Israel, in order to show them the sufficiency of the word committed to them, he declared: “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law” (Deuteronomy 29:29 NIV). What is written in the Scriptures is what has been revealed. What is not written but is still true constitutes the secret things of God.

However, there are some people to whom God decides to reveal these secret things. Some years ago, I was visited by Jesus Christ and two of His angels standing to His right and left. In this encounter, He said to me, “There are people I love; I show them all I create.” According to the Scriptures, those He loves specifically are those who obey Him. One of the benefits of such obedience is that He will show (reveal) Himself to them (John 14:21).

Those who love and fear the Lord are those who obey Him. And “The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him…” (Psalm 25:14 KJV). Walking in obedience to both the spoken and written instructions of God gives you access to the secret things of God.

Let us thank God for His word today. Let us ask Him to help us obey Him completely and to grant us access to His secret things.
