38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38

Jesus said in the opening verse that we should give, and it will be given to us. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over… So indeed the saying “givers never lack” is true and is biblical. 

Giving is one of the greatest demonstrations of love. As the bible say’s for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son… (John 3:16)

Givers never lack because they receive all they need and beyond. Givers receive the following: 

1. Givers receive all graces to always have all their needs so that they can continue to abound in every good work. (2 Corinthians 9:6-8)
2. Givers receive freedom from the love of money, which is the root of all evils (1 Timothy 6:10, Luke 11:41, Luke 16:13)
3. Givers receive joy as a reward (Acts 20:35). That means literally you feel good showing love by giving. 
4. Givers create space to receive more because how can a full hand receive more, but the hand that gives has space to receive more.
5. Givers store up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21, Luke 16:9).
6. Givers provoke God for a favour and a miracle (1 Kings 3: 1-5, 2 Kings 4:13)
7. Givers reflect the character of God, for God gives.

The list above is probably not exhaustive.

As I meditated on this topic, I reflected on my own experiences. I might not be as generous as others, but I wondered the times I experienced what one can call lack, despite my giving. I remembered how I spent some months without a job and how my savings ran out, but as soon as they did, a relation offered to take me in without my asking, where I stayed for several months. Without an income, I had shelter and was well fed. In another similar situation, a friend even persuaded me to accept their financial assistance. So indeed I can testify that by God’s grace, I have given a little, and have seen how God moved the hearts of people to help me sometimes without even my asking. 

In this life, we come with nothing and return with nothing. You still have only one stomach, no matter how much money or food you have. There will always be what you can eat, invest/save, and give; you just have to start practising giving now, not waiting until you are rich. As the bible says in Proverbs 11:24: “One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty “

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s pray that God will help us to believe His word and grow in generosity and kindness.
