16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
1 John 4:16
Beloved in Christ, God is Love … This is a very profound and deep reality. The Word does not just say God has love but it equates God with love. The identity of God is summarized as Love.
In 1 Corinthians 13, we see various attributes of love like patience, kindness, humility, mercy, long-suffering for others etc. All these attributes we see in Jesus Christ who is the express image of God (Colossians 1:15, Hebrews 1:3). Jesus Christ was humble by submitting to God to die on the cross for our sins. He was so merciful that even while He was nailed on the cross He said “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing…” (Luke 23:34)
The bible tells us:
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. John 3:16-18
God who is so great gave us the opportunity to share in His eternal glory by believing in His Son. There is no amount of money you can ever pay that is worth eternal life. Yet God gave it to us who believe in His son, free of charge, but which he paid dearly for, with His son’s blood.
The bible tells us:
“…He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” Matthew 5:43
God is so merciful with the unrighteous, waiting and hoping for them to repent that He continues to send rain on all and when the beautiful sun shines it does not discriminate between the righteous and the unrighteous.
Therefore, because we know who God is, that He is love, we who are His children must also walk in love like our Heavenly Father. Being kind, merciful, humble, long suffering towards others etc. Just as He has loved us and still does everyday.
Prayer Points:
- Let’s thank God for His Word today.
- Let’s thank God that our names are written in the book of life. (Luke 10:20, Revelation 13:8)
- Let’s ask God to help us love everyone including those who might be against us.
