“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen.”
โ€” 2 Peter 3:18

Have you ever wondered why, although members of the Body of Christ share a common faith in Christ Jesus, there are differences in the extent to which we manifest the blessings that are in Christ? The Jesus who died for you and me is the same Jesus who died for men like Daddy Adeboye and Pastor Christ Oyakhilome. Despite this, we cannot deny that these men have manifested the divine life more than many Christians.

How is it that some seem to excel more than others, even though we serve the same God?

To answer this question, we need to understand that although, through faith in Christ Jesus, we are heirs of the blessing of Abraham (Galatians 3:29) and have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3), the extent to which we can manifest those blessings in the natural depends on how much grace we have been able to access. Grace is the difference among men, including Christians.

When Scripture admonishes us to grow in grace (2 Peter 3:18), it suggests that the grace in every believer’s life is given in measures and can be increased. The more grace we have, the greater the ease with which we can manifest certain realities in God. Grace is divine empowerment. Just as it takes a stronger individual to lift a 100kg weight than someone with less strength, a person who has grown in grace experiences greater ease in situations where someone who has not grown in grace may struggle.

While some individuals have taken intentional steps to grow in grace, others have remained at a certain level because there are truths they have not accepted. Grace is given to the humble (James 4:6), and we demonstrate humility when we receive and accept the Word of God (James 1:21). When we spend time listening to the Word of God and praying (especially praying in tongues), we grow in grace.

Service is another way to grow in grace in the Kingdom, as it takes humility to serve. Also, the Apostle Paul revealed in 2 Corinthians 9:8 that joyful giving causes all grace to abound toward us. Furthermore, fasting is a means of humbling ourselves before God; therefore, it is also a means of accessing grace.

God is not partial in His dealings with men. His blessings may appear more evident in the lives of some because they have accessed more grace. Therefore, as we grow in grace, greater access will be given to us.
