“But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. And above all things have fervent love for one another, for ‘love will cover a multitude of sins.’”
(1 Peter 4:7-8 NKJV)
A person who knows that an important event is approaching does not live carelessly but prepares himself. In the same way, the word of God reminds believers that “the end of all things is at hand.” This should not cause us to live in fear, but it should awaken us to live with greater seriousness, spiritual alertness, and readiness for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ (Matt. 24:44).
Peter gives believers two important instructions in light of the coming end: be serious and watchful in prayer. In these last days, prayer must become a priority in the life of every believer. Jesus Himself warned His disciples to “watch and pray” so that they would not fall into temptation (Matt. 26:41). The enemy is constantly seeking opportunities to attack God’s people, and therefore we must remain spiritually awake and dependent upon God (1 Pet. 5:8).
Being watchful in prayer means being spiritually alert and discerning. We should not only pray when we are in trouble, but continually seek God, pray for our families, pray for the Church, pray for our leaders, and intercede for those who do not yet know Christ (1 Tim. 2:1–4). Prayer keeps our hearts connected to God and strengthens us to stand firm when our faith is tested (Eph. 6:18).
Also, in the last days, our love for one another must not grow cold. Jesus warned that because lawlessness will abound, “the love of many will grow cold” (Matt. 24:12). Therefore, the Church must be known for genuine love, forgiveness, patience, and compassion. We are called to bear with one another and forgive one another, just as Christ has forgiven us (Col. 3:13–14).
Fervent love does not mean ignoring sin or approving wrongdoing. Rather, it means choosing forgiveness, reconciliation, patience, and restoration instead of hatred, bitterness, and division. Love “will cover a multitude of sins” by refusing to expose, magnify, and hold on to the faults of others, while seeking their restoration in accordance with God’s truth (Prov. 10:12; Gal. 6:1).
Beloved in the Lord, as we see the day of Christ approaching, let us become more prayerful, more watchful, and more loving. Let us not allow the pressures and distractions of this world to make us spiritually asleep. Instead, let us encourage one another, pray for one another, and remain faithful until the Lord comes.

- Let us thank God for the privilege of prayer and for the salvation we have through Jesus Christ.
- Let us ask Him to make us serious and watchful in prayer, strengthen our spiritual lives in these last days, and fill our hearts with fervent love for one another.
