“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.” I Corinthians 9:24 NKJV
Some years ago, shortly after the start of our Intercessory prayers at Christ Church, the Lord opened my eyes to see a vision of certain creatures in human form but taller, and they seemed to be carved from stone, though they were moving. In this vision, they were in a race, just like you will find in the Olympics.
I understood that the beings I saw represented the different beings who occupied this earth before Adam. This was further confirmed by the understanding He gave me about the image Nebuchadnezzar saw in the vision recorded in Daniel 3, beyond it representing the various kingdoms upon the earth from Babylon.
From the vision of creatures who seemed carved from stone running, the Lord was reminding me that I was in a race, and they were people who had run this race before me. One such is Apostle Paul, who revealed in his writings in 1 Corinthians 9 that not all obtain the prize in this race except those who compete according to the rules.
Having the understanding that life is a race, we would avoid being distracted by the things of this world and focus on fulfilling Purpose. Only those who hear at the end, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21, 23), obtain the reward, the prize for the race. Luke 19:17 also records a similar commendation: “Well done, good servant.”
Apostle Paul so desired this prize that he said:
“But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”
I Corinthians 9:27 NKJV
This is the key to obtaining the prize at the end: discipline. May God help us to be disciplined until the end so we would obtain the reward, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

- Let’s thank God for His Word today.
- Let’s ask Him to remind all believers that we are in a race, and He should give us the grace to compete according to the rules, so that we may obtain the prize.
