whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. (James 4:14 NKJV)

A morning mist may appear thick and visible, yet within a short time it disappears without a trace. James uses this illustration to remind us of the brevity and uncertainty of life. While many people make plans for tomorrow with great confidence, Scripture teaches that no one knows what a day may bring forth (Prov. 27:1).

The Apostle James is not discouraging planning, but he is warning against living independently of God. Every breath we take and every day we live are gifts from the Lord (Acts 17:28). Therefore, our plans, ambitions, and decisions should always be submitted to His will, acknowledging that He alone holds our future in His hands (Prov. 16:9).

The truth is that life on earth is temporary. We are pilgrims passing through this world, and our time here is short compared to eternity (1 Pet. 2:11). Yet many people become consumed with earthly pursuits while neglecting the condition of their souls. Jesus reminds us that true wisdom is found in laying up treasures in heaven rather than merely seeking temporary gain on earth (Matt. 6:19–21).

The brevity of life should not cause fear but rather inspire us to live purposefully for God. Every day presents an opportunity to grow in our relationship with Christ, serve others, share the Gospel, and fulfill God’s purpose for our lives (Eph. 5:15–16). Since we do not know what tomorrow holds, we must make the most of every opportunity the Lord gives us today.

Beloved in the Lord, let us live with humility, gratitude, and dependence upon God. May we seek His will in all things and devote our lives to what has eternal value, knowing that our earthly journey is brief but eternity is forever (2 Cor. 4:18).

Prayer Point:

Let us thank God for the gift of life and every opportunity He gives us to serve Him. Let us ask Him to help us live wisely, walk in His will, and use our time faithfully for His glory and the advancement of His Kingdom.

God bless you all.
