15 He will be eating curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, Isaiah 7:15

These days a lot of people are giving advice on Social media. And it is a good thing that everyone can express themselves for that’s freedom of speech. However, as Christians we have to be wise enough to know what to accept and what to reject and even whom to listen to in the first place.

Recently, I came across a video of someone giving advice to men on what to do to protect themselves in marriage and one of the things he mentioned was that men should not tell their wives about their weaknesses as the wife may turn around to use it against them. Another thing he advised was that men should not tell their wives completely what they earn because some women have been motivated to divorce their husbands because of money.

Listening to the man advising I could see many problems. His advices although sounded good on the surface, were not in alignment with the word of God. The word of God says the two shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:24,Matthew 19:5). But secrecy, suspicious and fear only breed division in the home instead of the oneness or unity that God desires for marriage.

As believers we need to see the world through the lens of God’s word. Don’t accept compromise to the word of God under the pretext that perhaps the word of God is not sufficient. Like thinking that fornication is alright if it is just one partner you are fornicating with.

For us to be able to judge rightly what advice out there to take, we must be well grounded in the word God, knowing not just the texts of scripture but understanding God’s ways and principles. Jesus Himself had to grow in wisdom through the study of the word (Luke 2:52).

Prayer Point:

  • Let’s thank God for His word today.
  • Let’s ask God to help us spend time reading, hearing, meditating on His word so that we can grow in wisdom in order to discern what is good and what is evil.
