While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. Genesis 8:22 KJV

The design of this world is in cycles. Everything goes through a full cycle and starts again: the water cycle, the weather cycle, the pregnancy cycle, the annual cycle, etc. So, the sowing season refers to new opportunities, new chapters, new seasons and new beginnings. The reason for day and night is because the Earth is revolving around its axis, and the reason for seasons is because the Earth is rotating around the sun. So, if you missed it in the last cycle, God is plenteous in mercy to give you another chance called a new beginning.

The fact that something does not happen immediately does not mean that nothing is happening. A farmer who plants a seed today does not expect to harvest the same day. There is a process between planting and harvesting. In the same way, God works through seasons in our lives. There are seasons of preparation, seasons of planting, seasons of waiting and seasons of manifestation (Ecc. 3:1-2).

In the Old Testament, it is sowing and reaping, but in the New Testament, there are two possibilities. You can either sow into the flesh or the Spirit (Galatians 6:7-9), and both seeds have their harvest. Let us briefly look at seeds that can be sown in the Spirit.

1. The word of God. Matt. 13:19-23

The seed that is being sown is the word of God. When the word of God is being sown consistently, it becomes mixed with understanding and begins to produce fruit (Matt. 13:23)

2. Human words. Ecclesiastes 5:6 KJV

Watch what you say to yourself and others in seasons of despair, disappointment and discouragement. It might feel like you are saying the truth about the situation, but that is not God’s plan for you. Don’t give the enemy ammunition against you to deny you of your testimony because of words from your mouth.

3. Character. Matthew 5:16 KJV

Godly character is a virtue, and it is what others see in you that will determine whether they will serve your God or not (2 Cor 3:2-3).

4. Knowledge of God. Deut. 6:6-7

There is always a decline in society or family whenever spiritual heritage is not passed down from one generation to another, and it results in the decline of morality, the knowledge of God and subsequently the collapse of such a family or society.

5. Givings and Generosity. 2 Cor. 9:6

We can sow through financial giving, but generosity goes beyond money. We sow when we give time to someone who needs support. We sow when we mentor a younger person. We sow when we use our skills to serve others. We sow when we encourage someone who is discouraged. We sow when we support the work of God faithfully and responsibly.

In conclusion, we need to reflect on what we have been planting that we need to stop and what we are supposed to be planting that we are not doing.

Prayer point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask for grace not to be discouraged and to plant good seeds that will glorify God.
