And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? (Luke 17:17 KJV)

Many of us have adopted the life pattern of crying at the altar when circumstances are unfavourable, but once God answers the prayers, we take off and forget the state of mind we were in before God had mercy on us.

In our opening text, we see the one leper who returned to thank Jesus after being healed, while the other nine went their way. Although all ten received healing, only the grateful one came back to honour the Giver. May we never become so consumed by God’s gifts that we forget to worship the Giver. Gratitude is one of the greatest expressions of faith because a thankful heart recognises that every good and perfect gift comes from God. It is easy to pray fervently during difficult seasons, but it takes a transformed heart to remain thankful after the breakthrough has come.

Another thing we must take note of is not to let people wash down our testimony or commonise it because it is not common. Every intervention of God is to be celebrated. So, when it is time to share testimony on Thanksgiving Sunday, go out and share it; don’t trivialise the hand of God because that blessing was once a prayer point.

Thankfulness is not just for answered prayers; it is also for God’s constant presence, His protection, His provision, and His unfailing love. Gratitude shifts our focus from what we lack to what God has already done. It keeps our hearts humble, guards us against pride, and strengthens our relationship with Him. The more we remember His goodness, the more our faith grows to trust Him for the future.

This second half of the year, let us take a moment to reflect on where God has brought you from. Remember the prayers He answered, the doors He opened, the dangers He protected you from, and the peace He gave when you thought all hope was lost. Let gratitude become your daily lifestyle, not just your response to miracles. A grateful heart attracts God’s presence and continually recognises His hand at work.

Prayer point:

Let us thank Him for His word today. Let’s pray for a grateful heart that will forever glorify Him for all and never trivialise His deeds in our lives.
