Title: Building According to Pattern

โ€œSee that you make them according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.โ€ โ€” Exodus 25:40 (KJV)

From the perfect order of creation and the precise details God gave His servants concerning specific projectsโ€”such as Moses with the ark of the covenant and the building of the templeโ€”it is clear that God is interested in even the minutest details. The ark of Noah, the ark of the covenant built through Moses, and Solomonโ€™s temple were all structures that foreshadowed the reality we now have under the New Covenant: our bodies and lives as the living temple of God.

The Scripture states that โ€œyour body is the temple of the Holy Spiritโ€ (1 Corinthians 6:19). This means that in building our livesโ€”through the decisions we make and the paths we chooseโ€”we must seek the pattern or blueprint by which we are to build. One dictionary definition of a pattern is โ€œa model or design used as a guide.โ€ Therefore, we need a divine pattern as a guide in building lives that God can dwell in.

The pattern God has given us is Jesus Christ, who is the exact representation of Godโ€™s being (Hebrews 1:3). Whenever we are faced with decisions, beginning something new, or responding to Godโ€™s instructions, we are to look unto Jesus Christ to understand what we ought to do.

Jesus Christ did not merely appear as the Son of Mary who lived for 33 years, died, and resurrected on the third day. He is the eternal Word of God who existed before the world began (John 1:1). This means that when we read the Bible with the understanding of the New Covenant, we are beholding Jesus and can act based on the revelation we receive from Him.

The Bible does not explicitly state how Noah received the pattern for the ark, nor how David conceived and understood the design for Solomonโ€™s temple. However, in the account of Moses, we see that he separated himself according to Godโ€™s instruction and received the pattern for the ark of the covenant, as well as the commandments for Israel. Separation and fellowship with the Holy Spirit give us access to the revelation of the pattern needed for building our lives and ministry.

Prayer Point

Let us thank God for His Word today. Let us also ask Him for the grace to build according to His divine pattern for our lives.
