The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For by me your days will be multiplied, and years of life will be added to you. Proverbs 9:10–11 NKJV

The pursuit of excellence is not merely a desire to distinguish ourselves from others; rather, it is a commitment to reflect the nature of God through our character, conduct, and daily choices. As we have learned, the Spirit of Excellence is not primarily defined by outward appearance, but by the condition and quality of the heart.

One of the key pathways to becoming excellent is through the acquisition and application of wisdom. Scripture presents wisdom as the foundation that teaches us to honor God, reject evil, and pursue righteousness. A wise person does not only recognize what is good but also possesses the understanding and discipline to live according to it.

The Bible says, “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate” (Proverbs 8:13). This reveals that true wisdom produces a life that is separated from anything contrary to God’s will. Since the Spirit of Excellence is demonstrated through godly character, wisdom enables us to make decisions that reflect the excellence of God within us.

Daniel was described as having an excellent spirit (Daniel 6:3), and his life was also characterized by consistent prayer. The Scriptures record that Daniel prayed three times daily, even in the face of opposition (Daniel 6:10). His excellence was not only a result of his wisdom and understanding but also his complete dependence on God.

Prayer grants us access to the grace required to follow the path of wisdom. Understanding what is right is essential, but we need God’s strength to consistently walk in obedience. Solomon was a man of remarkable wisdom, yet he failed to fully follow the counsel of wisdom because he did not continue in complete submission to God.

Therefore, becoming excellent requires both wisdom and prayer. Wisdom reveals the right direction, while prayer empowers us with the grace and strength to follow it.

A person who carries the Spirit of Excellence is not simply someone who achieves outward success but someone whose life demonstrates righteousness, discipline, integrity, and obedience to God.

Prayer Points

  • Let us thank God for His word today.
  • Let us ask Him to fill us with wisdom that teaches us to reject evil and pursue what is good.
  • Let us also ask for grace through prayer, so that we may not only understand what is right but also receive the strength to live according to His will.
