“Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him…” — Job 13:15 (KJV)

God is good, yet in His goodness, He may choose to take us through seasons of breaking and refining fire. What do we do in such moments? Do we curse Him and give up, or do we trust Him to the very end?

The story of Job reveals a profound truth: God can allow difficult things to happen to those who are faithful. You may diligently obey His commandments and remain committed in your walk with Him, yet still encounter situations that are unpleasant to your flesh.

Even Lazarus, whom Jesus loved, was allowed to suffer and die (see Gospel of John 11:1–44). Likewise, though Job feared God, the Lord permitted the adversary to take everything from him—except his life—and afflict his body.

This is sometimes the nature of our walk with God. He still tests men, just as He tested Job—not to destroy them, but to refine them. Job’s declarations such as, “…yet will I maintain mine own ways before Him” (Job 13:15 KJV) and “My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go” (Job 27:6) suggest a subtle confidence in self. God, in His wisdom, allowed trials to expose and purify even the hidden faults.

In the same way, when God allows trials in our lives, it is often for our refinement. Therefore, instead of rebellion, we are called to submit to His process. Instead of fear, we are to trust—because He is a good and faithful God.

At the end of Job’s trial, God restored him and gave him twice what he had lost. In the same way, God is able to give you double for your shame.

Let your confidence in Him remain unshaken. Do not stop believing in His promises. He is faithful, and He will surely bring His word to pass.
