“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”

— 2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV

There are purposes God calls us to fulfil that are greater than our natural strength and ability. Moses was called to stand before Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, yet he considered himself slow of speech and inadequate for the task. Gideon was led to confront the Midianites with only 300 men, despite the overwhelming size of the opposing army.

Why does God sometimes choose weak people to confront great challenges? It is because He desires His grace and strength to be revealed through them. When our natural ability is sufficient for what God has called us to do, we may be tempted to take the glory for ourselves. But when we recognise our limitations and still step forward in obedience, it becomes evident that the victory is not by our might, but by His grace.

The Apostle Paul pleaded with God concerning his thorn in the flesh, but the Lord answered him, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” Your weakness does not mean that God has abandoned you. Sometimes, your weakness is the very place where His strength is most clearly revealed.

Therefore, do not be discouraged by your weaknesses. Do not allow your limitations to make you abandon God’s purpose. Trust His grace. Depend on His strength. Keep moving forward in obedience.

Like Paul, learn to glorify God even in your weaknesses. We glorify Him when we thank Him despite our circumstances. We glorify Him when we continue to do what is right even when doing so is difficult. We glorify Him when we refuse to allow our suffering to change our commitment to God’s ways.

Thank God for the weakness. His strength is being revealed through it.
